On March 24, Rocky Hill, Suffield and 21 other Connecticut municipalities were honored at a ceremony held at the State Capitol for earning a Bright Idea Grant. Through the Clean Energy Communities program, an Energize Connecticut initiative, towns pledge to reduce their municipal building energy consumption by 20% and to purchase 20% of their municipal electricity from renewable sources by 2018. Points are earned towards rewards via participation in community-wide energy-saving and renewable energy programs that engage residents and businesses alike. Both CRCOG towns earned $10,000 Bright Idea awards for their energy efficiency efforts that can be used to fund future community-selected energy saving projects.
