In honor of Earth Day, the Marlborough Conservation Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, Nature Trails & Sidewalks Commission and Lake Advisory Commission are working together to organize a town-wide clean-up day on the morning of Saturday, April 23rd (with a rain date of April 30th). We are hoping to have a wide range of youth and adult groups from town involved in working together to clean up the trash, litter and debris which has accumulated along the roads, in the cemeteries and in the parks around town.
We’ve chosen to make this both a community work and fun educational event that will kick-off at 8:0 0 am and end at 12:30pm on the Town Green. The CT Materials Innovation & Recycling Authority (www.CTMIRA.org) is providing fun activities for children and families, as well as providing information on how recycling begins at home. With luck, we’ll have great weather and a huge turnout. More importantly, it might just focus some attention on how much garbage is being carelessly discarded along the roadsides or flying out of truck and trailer beds on the way to the transfer station. Trash bags, safety vests and gloves will be provided to all volunteers who need them.
If your family, youth group or adult group would like to be involved, or if you’re able to make a donation to cover some of the festivities, please consider joining the Commissions for an organizational meeting on Thursday, March 31st at 7:00 p.m. in Town Hall. If you’d like to sign up or need additional information, please contact Judy at (860) 295-6204 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is no limit to what we can do together, as a community, to make Marlborough more beautiful. Let’s clean up, Marlborough!
