The next session of the Partnership for Strong Communities’ 2015 IForum series will focus on First Mile/Last Mile: The Crucial Links in the Journey to Opportunity. Connecticut and its municipalities have been working to ensure that affordable and mixed-income housing is built near new and existing mass transit stations so residents can reach jobs, healthcare, education and other services. But many low- and moderate-income residents will still have to live far from the mass transit stations. For those who have been homeless, are disabled, or have been out of the workforce, accessing employment, training and necessary services will depend on a system of fixed-route buses, vans and demand service, bicycles and walkable ways to cover the First Mile from home to the mass transit line, and the Last Mile from the line to their destinations.
A date for this IForum has not yet been announced. Additional information will be posted here once it becomes available, or you may contact David Fink (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Stephen Yenke (Stephen@pschousing.org) directly at 860-244-0066.
